AAS at Adaptation Futures 2023
The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) is joining members of the global climate change adaptation community at the Adaptation Futures conference (AF2023), being held in Montreal from 2-6 October 2023.
The Adaptation Futures conference series is the premier international gathering devoted entirely to climate change adaptation, bringing together researchers, policymakers, practitioners, industry representatives and other stakeholders to present their work in adaption, learn what others are doing and build networks. It is the flagship event of the UN’s World Adaptation Science Programme (WASP). This year’s conference is being organized by Ouranos, in partnership with the Government of Canada and WASP.
For the first time the Adaptation Futures conference will feature a pavilion dedicated to Africa, led by the AAS.
The Africa Pavilion will be a focal point for critical discussions and collaboration, bringing together key partners such as the African Union, the European Union, the World Meteorological Organisation, universities, the private sector, and UN agencies, focusing on Africa's climate change challenges and fostering commitments for climate financing and climate action towards climate justice and sustainable development on the continent.
AAS will coordinate the 11 sessions in the Africa Pavilion and will host its own session on Tuesday 3rd Oct 2023 at 14h30-16h00 (GMT-4) discussing food security in Africa: lessons learnt, opportunities, and priorities for adaptation. The session shall feature seven early-to-mid career researchers from the African Research Initiative for Scientific Excellence (ARISE), working on the nexus between climate change and food security.
